Advancing Energy Management in the Regions of Armenia

  • Published 08/10/2025

The Environmental Project Implementation Unit under the UNDP-GCF project “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” continues to champion sustainable energy practices across Armenian communities.

Building on the momentum of knowledge-sharing activities in 2024 and 2025, EPIU has partnered with the municipalities of Stepanavan and Alaverdi to strengthen local energy management systems and introduce cutting-edge technologies for smarter resource use.

A key milestone in this collaboration is the deployment of the Energy Management Information System (EMIS) — a digital platform localised by EPIU and successfully piloted in Yerevan. Now, Stepanavan and Alaverdi are integrating EMIS to monitor and optimise their energy consumption.

To support this rollout, EPIU organised a hands-on training sessions for municipal energy managers and staff members in Alaverdi and Stepanavan.

During the event, participants explored the role and responsibilities of an energy manager, the technical solutions offered by the system and practical exercises entering real data on gas, water, electricity, and other utilities.

These interactive sessions empowered local teams to confidently navigate the EMIS platform and apply its tools to real-world scenarios.

Both municipalities have now officially adopted EMIS, setting a powerful example for other communities towards a smart, energy-efficient, and green future.
